At Recover Physio, we offer private physiotherapy from our two clinics, in the center of Norwich and at The Nest, to patients in Norwich, Norfolk and surrounding areas. Learn more about private physio and how we can help here.
What is private physiotherapy?
Private physiotherapy is a service that is offered outside of the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), where services are delivered by Chartered Physiotherapists.
Patients receiving care from private physiotherapists can expect access to treatment plans that are tailored to each individual, ensuring optimal recovery from their injuries. Patients can also privately access specific services such as shockwave therapy and dry needling, which are not always available through the NHS.
In addition, waiting times for private treatment are typically shorter than on the NHS, and can also give clients more flexible appointment options.
Sessions are typically either paid for by the patient directly, through private health insurance, or via employer healthcare benefits.

How does private physiotherapy differ from NHS physiotherapy?
NHS physiotherapy services have faced significant cutbacks over the last decade, a trend exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. These financial and resource challenges have led to diminished resources and longer waiting times for NHS physiotherapy patients, hindering their recovery. Delayed treatment can impact patients’ long-term recovery prognosis, even increasing the risk of chronic pain.
Because of the cutbacks the NHS has shifted more towards a hands-off treatment approach, which often include exercise programs and stretching routines that need to be self-managed by patients. Although these methods are evidence-backed and can be effective, many patients also require hands-on treatments such as joint mobilisations and soft-tissue therapy.
At Recover Physio, we offer both hands-on and hands-off treatment approaches, combined, to enhance the effectiveness of our holistic care. Hands-on treatment can help reduce pain in the short term, while hands-off treatment is key to patients’ long-term recovery.
By using this combined approach, we can safely and effectively help patients get back to their normal life in a safe, effective way.
Is it worth paying for private physiotherapy?
When dealing with pain or an injury, accessing timely and effective treatment can make all the difference, helping you recover quickly and avoid the risk of long-term pain. Private physiotherapy is an excellent option for faster, more convenient access to effective, quality healthcare. Our patients at Recover Physio, our patients have told us that private physiotherapy is a worthwhile investment for those seeking better outcomes, faster recovery, and greater convenience.
Private physiotherapy allows you to easily book appointments at times that suit you, bypassing lengthy NHS waiting lists and ensuring you get the care you need, when you need it.
Private physiotherapy appointments tend to be longer, allowing your physiotherapist to develop a personalised treatment plan focused on helping you more quickly return to full health. In private clinics, continuity of care from the same healthcare professional is guaranteed.
Choosing private physiotherapy does not affect your right to receive NHS treatments. Patients can still access NHS services including orthopaedics, GPs, or other medical services that can work alongside NHS rehabilitation to enhance your recovery.
If you are looking for expert advice, fast and effective treatment, and rehabilitation plans that are tailored to your needs and goals, investing in private physiotherapy could be the right choice for you.
What does a typical physio treatment plan look like?
At Recover Physio, each patient will receive a treatment plan tailored to their needs, depending on their condition, goals, and progress.
At the initial consultation one of our physiotherapists will conduct a detailed and thorough assessment, discussing the patient’s symptoms, past medical history, lifestyle, and movement patterns.
A physical assessment will follow, including an assessment of joint mobility, strength, balance and function, depending on the presenting complaint. A diagnosis may be given based on the findings, and a treatment plan will be discussed.
Most patients will need to attend follow-up sessions, but the number can vary based on factors including the type or severity of injury, the patient’s goals, and their response to treatment. Our physiotherapists will always discuss timings of follow-up appointments with you after the initial assessment, and our aim is always to treat you optimally for your recovery.
A personalised exercise program alongside hands-on treatment is a key component of physiotherapy treatment. At Recover Physio, we provide patients with tailored mobility, strengthening, and stability exercises to practice between sessions, based on their condition and symptoms. Consistent adherence to exercise programs is very important to determine the success of patients’ recovery.
Treatment plans are regularly reassessed, and once goals are met – whether that be pain reduction, return to activity, or improved strength/mobility – patients then transition to self-management programmes with ongoing guidance.
Is private physiotherapy expensive?
Private physiotherapy offers fast access to high-quality treatment, and can be seen as an investment in your health. While private physiotherapy – unlike NHS treatment – does carry a cost, it provides personalised care, shorter wait times, and a tailored approach to recovery, making it a valuable option for those looking to prioritise their recovery.
The cost of private physiotherapy sessions varies according to the location and session type. At Recover Physio fees are competitive and reflect the expertise of our therapists, the quality of care, and our bespoke treatment approaches.
An indicative treatment plan generally includes:
- Initial consultation: One of our experienced physiotherapists conducts an assessment, determines a diagnosis based on the findings, and creates a treatment plan.
- Follow-up sessions: Usually involving assessing progress, modifying treatment plans, and addressing any new concerns that may be raised during the session. Treatment-based interventions such as soft-tissue or joint mobilisations, dry-needling, and/or electrotherapy modalities
