Are Women's Health issues making life challenging?

Don’t allow women’s health issues to affect your quality of life!

Women’s health is not always given the recognition it deserves, despite most women experiencing some form of gender-specific health issue at some point in their lives. Our Women's Health Therapists are here to help

If you've been experiencing women's health issues yourself, then you are certainly not alone. At Recover Physio, our dedicated Women’s Health Therapists treat many women, with symptoms such as Pelvic Pain and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, every week. Women who are frustrated with how their health issues have impacted on their quality of life, preventing them from doing the things that they love to do.

Our Women’s Health Therapists have experience in treating women’s health issues of all kinds. These range from Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (including incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse), DRAM (Divarication of Abdominis Muscles, also known as Diastasis Recti), Pelvic Girdle Pain (or Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) and other muscle and joint pains (most commonly in the lower back, pelvis, ribs and shoulders).

Physiotherapist Sophia Smith and Soft Tissue Therapist Mel Lake are trained to treat all women’s health related issues, including issues arising both antenatally and postnatally, or in other stages in life, such as during menopause or after surgery. They provide thorough assessments, treatments, rehabilitation programmes and tailored massage treatments for each client on an individual basis. At Recover Physio we know precisely what treatment you need, as well as the rehab process required for your specific issue.

Are you pregnant, or have recently given birth?

Many women experience aches, pains and stiffness both during and after pregnancy, ranging from mild to severe. Regular treatment throughout pregnancy supports the health and wellbeing of you and your baby. Our treatment employs techniques and positioning adapted to the specific stage of your pregnancy, which means that you can see us at any time.

Sophia and Mel can help you to maintain muscle strength, joint mobility and good posture during pregnancy, as hormonal and biomechanical changes place extra strain on the body, leading to pain and discomfort. Most muscle and joint problems experienced in pregnancy can be relieved and improved with physiotherapy and massage therapy and you will be given an individualised programme specific to you and your needs.

Are you suffering symptoms of menopause?

Most women will experience menopausal symptoms at some point in their lives. For most, this will occur between the ages of 45 and 55, but for many women, it can be as early as their 30’s. Whilst menopause can have significant negative impacts on women’s health and overall quality of life, physiotherapy can both relieve and mitigate many of the symptoms.

The team can assess and treat the physical aches and pains commonly experienced during menopause using a range of techniques specific to your needs. Massage and soft tissue work are very effective in helping to improve mood, sleep and general wellbeing.

Exercise also plays a very important part in your treatment and you will be advised of the right exercise programme for you. Undertaking individualised exercise programmes can help to improve overall muscle strength, bone density and balance, weight management, sleep quality and symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction, all of which can be negatively impacted during the menopause.

At Recover Physio, we understand the specific challenges that women face and we are committed to helping you to maintain your health, wellbeing and general quality of life during these times.

Our Women's Health Team can help

We understand that you have options when it comes to who you see for your healthcare, so we want to make certain that you feel completely comfortable with us and confident about how we will help you.

We always listen to feedback from our patients and the most common thing we hear is that they really liked being able to speak to a Physiotherapist, for free, before their first appointment. It gave them the chance to ask questions about their health challenges and learn how physiotherapy could help them to enjoy a better quality of life. We always take the time to talk through your issues with you and to answer any questions you have.

At Recover Physio, our therapists will work with you to relieve your women’s health problems and to help you manage them going forward.
